Youth Sports Physicals

At NxT Step Pediatrics, we provide comprehensive sports physicals for children to ensure they are physically healthy enough to play. If you have a child who participates in sports, youth sports physicals are a must, with many leagues requiring them before allowing children to join. However, whether they are required or not, having your pediatrician conduct a sports physical can help to protect your child from avoidable illnesses or injuries. During the physical, we’ll discuss your child’s family medical history, conduct a physical exam, take height and weight measures, and more to ensure that your child is healthy and ready to participate in sports.

Youth Sports Injury Services

While we are firm believers that preventative care can minimize your child’s risk when playing sports, accidents and overuse injuries do happen, and when they occur, our pediatrician is here to help. We understand the unique needs of children who have sustained an injury while playing sports, and with more than 20 years of experience in pediatrics, Dr. Chioma Okammor has the knowledge and expertise to help your child through the healing and rehabilitation process.

Signs of a Pediatric Sports Injury

As parents, it can sometimes be difficult to spot the signs of a sports injury if your child does not directly tell you. However, allowing your child to continue to play sports with an injury can have serious implications. Below are a list of some common signs that your child may have incurred an injury while playing sports:

  • Inability or difficulty moving a body part

  • Pain

  • Redness

  • Bruising

  • Swelling

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Abrasions
  • Confusion
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

The symptoms above can be signs of a strain, sprain, concussion, or another type of injury. If your child has sustained an injury while playing sports, schedule a youth sports physical with us right away.
